February 2018 (Coahoma County) – Habitual Offender receives Life sentence for Cold Case Murder

District Attorney Brenda F. Mitchell announced that Habitual Offender Kelvin Taylor, A/K/A “KT” was found guilty by a jury in Coahoma County of the 2011 murders of Willie Bass A/K/A Bug and Flora Watkins and sentenced to two Life sentences.

In September of 2011, Law enforcement reported to Quincy Street in Clarksdale, Mississippi in reference to a double homicide. Officers found the bodies of Watkins and Bass with gunshot wounds to the head at the home of Watkins.  Law enforcement worked diligently on the case but to no avail; the case went cold. The Sheriff of Coahoma County eventually received information that Kelvin Taylor was responsible for the deaths of Watkins and Bass. Follow-up was done on the information received by the Sheriff and Taylor was eventually charged with two counts of First Degree Murder.
